A Gorgeous Cliff Top Dunnottar Castle Wedding, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire
It was a beautiful sunny Aberdeenshire day when I travelled to Raemoir House Hotel in the Highlands of Scotland to be photographer at Amy and Mark’s amazing Scottish Castle wedding. Travelling all the way from North America, their choice of location for their wedding ceremony, the cliff tops next to Dunnottar Castle, was nothing short of breath-taking.
Dunnottar Castle’s dramatic location is increasingly popular in the Scottish Highlands as a perfect spot for a memorable outdoor wedding ceremony. Dating back more than 700 years Dunnottar (meaning ‘Fort of the shelving slope ’ in Scottish Gaelic) has a rich history of Kings, Queens, worship and war. Now adding to the castle’s history are the many couples who travel from far and wide to Scotland to recite their wedding vows and begin their very own chapter of history together.
The Wedding Day
My day as wedding photographer began at Amy and Mark’s elegant accommodation and wedding reception venue, Raemoir House Hotel. Raemoir House is an exclusive use venue set in 14 acres of private and secluded parkland in the beautiful Royal Deeside Area and makes a fantastic setting for an elegant and authentic Scottish Highlands wedding. I love to use my photography to tell the story of each wedding, so I began by shooting Amy and Mark’s final preparations for their wedding day. Capturing those small details, the final touches of the make-up, the wedding dress waiting to be put on, straightening the ties and fixing the buttonholes, all add to capture the anticipation of the wedding day ahead. Once the wedding preparations were complete Amy and Mark headed outside separately for a sweet first look moment. My wedding photography coverage continued right through the windswept (not uncommon in the Highlands of Scotland!) and heart-warming family ceremony and well into the evening celebrations back at Raemoir House, where traditional Scottish Ceilidh dancing was the order of the day!
What an amazing day this was and perfectly planned by Timeless White who made sure the long-distance wedding planning went effortlessly. If you are feeling inspired by Amy and Mark’s beautiful wedding and would like to find out more about the legalities of getting married in Aberdeenshire the local registry office has the information you need. The Visit Aberdeenshire site also has loads of information about the local area and its many attractions.
