The Hermitage Wedding Photography
If you’re looking to tie the knot surrounded by nature without needing to hike up a mountain peak, The Hermitage near Dunkeld is easily one of the finest spots in Perthshire. Tucked away just off the A9, it’s a place defined by massive Douglas firs, winding woodland paths, and the constant sound of the River Braan running through the gorge.

Why I Love Covering Weddings at The Hermitage
There is a quiet, tanquil quality to The Hermitage that makes it brilliant for an intimate wedding or elopement.
The Ancient Woodland
The first thing you notice walking into the woods is the sheer scale of the trees. Standing beneath towering, ancient Douglas firs gives the whole place a natural cathedral feel. The canopy breaks up the light overhead, giving us soft, filtered light to work in all day long—which is ideal for photography regardless of whether the sun is out or the clouds have rolled in.
Ossian’s Hall & The Tumbling Waterfall

Built high above the River Braan in the 18th century, Ossian’s Hall is the real centerpiece of the glen. Looking out from the balcony over the Black Linn Falls, you’ve got water crashing down over the rocks right beneath you. It’s a dramatic spot to say your vows or step inside for a moment out of the weather, with the roar of the waterfall giving the whole ceremony a incredible backdrop.
Tranquility & A Relaxed Pace
What I enjoy most about shooting here is the sense of quiet. Once you step off the main track and follow the river, everything slows down. It’s a place where you can take a proper walk, enjoy the fresh pine air, and actually take in the moment together without feeling like you’re on a schedule or on display.

Experienced, Low-Key Woodland Photography
Woodland photography comes down to understanding light and keeping things simple. The dense tree cover means conditions change constantly as you walk along the River Braan, but having covered weddings here in all seasons, I know where to find the best quiet pockets and how to work with the light as it shifts.
Whether you’re planning a private handfasting overlooking the river or a small ceremony inside Ossian’s Hall with a couple of close witnesses, my job is to make the photography as relaxed and fun as possible and to let you enjoy your day as it happens.
