Intimate Scottish Forest Wedding at the Dell of Abernethy
For years I have enjoyed visiting the Cairngorms in the Scottish Highlands. As I love visiting the area so much it was wonderful to photograph Kelly and Andrew’s beautiful forest wedding there. Having travelled from The States, Kelly and Andrew were planning an intimate family affair. With just close family in attendance, everyone stayed at the amazing Dell of Abernethy in Nethy Bridge. Nestled in the ancient Caledonian woodland the Dell was the perfect cosy base for the wedding day. The ceremony taking place nearby at the lochside forest of Loch an Eilen, Rothiemurchus.
The Wedding Day
Having stayed in Aviemore the evening before, I arrived at the Dell around mid-day. Kelly and Andrew were putting the final touches to their preparations as I shot some photographs of their details. I like to capture images of the smaller elements of the wedding day. The details such as the wedding rings, shoes, flowers and accessories really help to tell the story of the day.
After some pre-wedding drinks, the wedding party drove along the winding Cairngorm roads to the place of the ceremony. As family waited by the lochside, Kelly and her parents walked down the woodland path piped along by Spud the Piper. The emotional handfast ceremony conducted by Scor AnSgeulaiche was heartwarming and memorable, topped off by a ceremonial dram.
The day concluded with celebratory drinks and delicious meal all served back at the Dell. I said my goodbyes and left Kelly and Andrew to celebrate with their nearest and dearest.
