A Beautiful Trossachs Church Wedding Ceremony with Celebrations at the Roman Camp Hotel
It was incredible to photograph Helen and Dougs Roman Camp Hotel Wedding in Callander. The Trossachs National Park, in the lower Highlands of Scotland, is high up on my list of favourite places. Situated only 60 minutes by car from Scotland’s two biggest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and with its wooded glens and brae’s (hills), quiet lochs, and picturesque villages, Callander and Aberfoyle, it is a place of beauty, peace and tranquillity.
It is always a pleasure and an honour to photograph weddings in this gorgeous region of the Scottish Highlands. Helen and Doug chose the gorgeous Trossachs Church, on the banks of Loch Achray, as the venue for their wedding ceremony. Built in 1849, Lady Willoughby d’Eresby selected location of the church as it was “the loveliest spot in rural Scotland in a magnificent setting of mountain, loch, forest and meadow.“, and I have to say I can’t argue with her! 150 years later people still travel here in their drove to appreciate the quintessential Scottish Scenery.
For Helen and Doug’s celebrations, the chosen venue was the unique and beautiful Roman Camp Hotel. Set in secluded private gardens and situated on the banks of the River Teith in the centre of the village of Callander, with its pink exterior and traditional Scottish Country house décor, it is warm and cosy, and a perfect place to celebrate a wedding.
The Wedding Day
As I was due to photograph Helen and Doug’s wedding for the full day, I began coverage at the Roman Camp Hotel as they were putting the finishing touches to their preparations, and I must put a special mention in for Doug’s unique and memorable sporran! I love to photograph mainly in a reportage style, so I can capture all the details of the day from the preparations, through the ceremony, right until the evening dancing in a relaxed and unobtrusively manner as possible. However, I do enjoy those moments where I steal the wedding couples away for photographs together and also an opportunity for them to enjoy a rare quiet moment during the wedding day alone together.
It was great to photograph my first wedding at the Roman Camp Hotel, work with Helen, Doug and all their friends and family who were all so lovely. Looking forward to photographing another wedding here again soon!
