Ashley & Darren's Elegantly Relaxed Cottiers Wedding in Glasgow's West End
It was amazing to photograph this Cottiers Wedding earlier in the summer. Ashley and Darren were looking for a natural wedding photographer, with a relaxed approach, to photograph their gorgeous wedding day. Glasgow’s leafy West End area looks particularly lovely in June, and is the perfect backdrop for a city summer wedding!
At the top of Hyndland Street, in the heart of the buzzing West End, long-standing Glasgow favourite Cottiers Theatre and Bar makes the perfect venue for a wedding party. A converted church building complete with stained glass windows and ornate stonework, Cottiers has character in abundance and suited Ashley and Darren’s elegantly relaxed approach to their wedding day perfectly.
The Wedding Day
Myself and second shooter for the day, Emmett, began coverage of Ashley and Darren’s wedding as they completed their preparations for the day. Ashley preparing at her family home and Darren at the West End’s Belhaven Hotel. I really love these moments, as you can feel the anticipation in the air and there is a real buzz in the atmosphere!
Ashley had the help of her five amazing bridesmaids to help her prepare and put the final touches to her super elegant Kudos Bridal wedding dress. Ashley had a beautiful relaxed and contemporary wedding look. Choosing to wear her hair down, it was beautifully styled by Louise Hughes Hair and complemented by modern natural makeup. To finish the look was a stunning bouquet of soft green eucalyptus with red and soft pink roses, matching the colours of Ashley’s bridesmaid elegant dresses. Once everyone was ready it was time to catch a taxi!
At the other end of the West End, Darren and his three grooms’ men finalised their preparations at the Belhaven Hotel before taking a stroll through the leafy West End streets. A pre-wedding beverage was required at The Rock Pub before moving on to Cottiers for the wedding ceremony.
Emmett and I continued coverage, keeping it natural and candid, throughout the ceremony, during the wedding speeches and right up until the evening celebrations. It was also great to get Ashley and Darren outside for a selection of wedding portraits together as new Mr and Mrs!
I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this wedding, and Ashley, Darren and all their wedding guests were a joy to work with, and it was really great to be working in my home city and get to walk home afterwards!
