Ryna & Oliver's Autmnal Woodland Handfast Ceremony
I love an autumn wedding! It was fantastic to make the trip from Glasgow, through the Scottish Highland last October. I was heading north to act as photographer for Ryna and Oliver’s beautiful Isle of Skye elopement wedding. The landscape colours are truly gobsmacking at this time of year, a perfect backdrop for an intimate Scottish Wedding!
The Wedding Day
I met with Ryna and Oliver, who had travelled across the globe from Australia, at gorgeous Mary’s Thatched Cottages in the tiny hamlet of Elgol. Photography began just as they were putting the final touches to their preparations. Having planned an outdoor wedding, the ceremony was set at a secret forest location on Sleat, Skye’s Southernmost peninsula. Sworn to secrecy over the exact location, the beautiful Woodland knoll set the perfect atmosphere for the ancient handfast wedding ceremony. Conducted by Sonja of Heart and Soul Ceremonies, the occasion was both intimate and heart-warming.
Once Ryna and Oliver drank a dram from the ceremonial quaich we moved on to Coastal Dunscaith Castle. The remote castle is a dramatic ruin on the stunning coastline of southern Skye. We had great fun shooting some portraits among the awe-inspiring landscape (and the dramatic Skye weather). From there we took the road back to Elgol where I said my goodbyes. Ryna and Oliver continued to celebrate in style with their nearest and dearest.
